Data Visualization Project, Streaming Music.

You would think when everybody is quarantined at home people would be more inclined to listen to music. The exact opposite happened. Streaming services like Spotify and Pandora reported a significant drop in streaming numbers during the week of March 13 through March 19. The week were all restaurants, bars, and alike closed their doors to the public. When you think about music streaming and what it does to the artists, labels, and industries that it impacts. There are no more concerts, not many artists are dropping albums that they were supposed to this spring. Some are though, bands like twenty one pilots, an Columbus based band that are primarily a “kitchen sink” type genre or in lamant terms, alternative rock. Tyler Joseph, lead singer of the band, tweeted on Sunday around 7 p.m. “Josh, I’m sending you some files.” Joseph was referring to his bandmate, Josh Dun, lead drummer. The song Level of Concern was released by Fueled by Ramen, a subsidiary of Warner Music, Thursday, April 9th. The song focuses on the quarantine and self isolation. It has been dubbed the quarantine anthem of the month. The band is only one of the few bands that is releasing music during this time. “It just feels right to do it now” Joseph tweeted out on Sunday night. For every stream the song gets on Spotify and Apple Music the band will donate a portion of the profits to LiveNATION the concert producers. The money will go to the employees who have been furloughed. For the data visualization I would be focused on the downtrend of Spotify and Apple Music stream per song (sps). I will also touch on the amount of bands/artists who have already come out and say they will NOT be releasing music during this time!
